The NRTC was recently presented the Collaboration Award for the Summer Work Program Team during the 30th Annual Alabama Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Awards Luncheon (Mobile Chapter) in Mobile, Alabama. In partnership with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, Mobile Works, and Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast, the Summer Work Program provides training and employment for youth with disabilities. The NRTC developed a job search program for youth who are blind or visually impaired, which was added to the Summer Work Program curriculum in June 2016.

In October, the NRTC marked its 35-year anniversary as a center focused on enhancing employment and independent living outcomes for individuals who are blind or visually impaired through research, training, education, and dissemination. Collaboration in the Summer Work Program allows the NRTC to continue supporting school to work transition activities for youth through comprehensive job readiness curriculum and training.
